Final Performance

All the hard work has certainly paid off with final night of Habeas Corpus playing to a large and appreciative audience. It has been a brilliantly fun show to be involved in and I must thank Repertory for agreeing to produce this play and allowing me to direct it. The cast certainly seemed to enjoy all eight shows with the final fast-paced performance topping off the season perfectly – well done to all involved! A personal thanks too to Talia Annear-Kjoss who has been a terrifically supportive and helpful assistant director on this show.

Next up on the Repertory schedule will be a wonderfully theatrical workshop production of local writer Joan Rosier-Jones’s new play The Stars Go Down. This is a very funny and darkly intelligent play exploring the overlapping boundaries between fact and fiction when a writer’s creations begin to take on a life of their own. Directed by Repertory stalwart Kerry Girdwood, and featuring an exciting array of familiar (and some new) faces, this unique two-performance workshop event (with a panelled discussion following) promises to be a theatrical first for Wanganui audiences – so make a note in the diary!

This will be my final RepTalk column for a while – next week our president Max Restieaux will take over the reins. I have certainly enjoyed chronicling the backstage events over the last twelve weeks, leading up to the presentation of Habeas Corpus, but now it’s time for a bit of a rest!

The Stars Go Down rehearsed workshop plays at Repertory on September 13th and 15th as part of the Wanganui Literary Festival. Catch up regularly on Repertory news by visiting our brand new website – www.wanganuirepertorytheatre.co.nz
