Blithe Spirit underway

A huge congratulations to the cast and crew of Blithe Spirit which opened on Friday evening at Repertory. As with any production there were some last minute jobs to do – the final dab of paint went on the set about five minutes before the audience were let in (but the paint was dry by the time the lights came up on the opening scene, thank goodness!)

This production has certainly been a challenge, with long rehearsals and much set building and decorating to be done. Fortunately we have a great team of helpers backstage who have really risen to the challenge this time, creating an authentic 1940s look for the set, props and wardrobe.

Thanks must also go to our technical team, Murray Ware on lights and Troy Taylor on sound. Murray has once again brought his lighting expertise to the fore producing a suitably theatrical design with some wonderful dramatic moments – the spooky lighting in the séance scene is especially effective. This is Troy’s first time on the sound and he has done a terrific job sourcing and mixing the sound effects and music as well as operating the sound system.

One final word of thanks must go to Aotearoa Design and Print for doing such a terrific job (again) producing our posters and programmes. As is sometimes the case, the programme may be the last piece to be put in place in a theatrical jigsaw and the Blithe Spirit programme was no exception. Aotearoa Design and Print produced our lovely colourful programme in less than 24 hours – well done guys!

This is Repertory’s final production for the year, however we are already planning more shows for next year, so keep an eye out for auditions by reading RepTalk, AWA, or checking out our new website www.wanganuirepertorytheatre.co.nz

Blithe Spirit continues its run at Repertory, playing Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7.30pm and finishing with a late afternoon matinee on Sunday at 4pm. Tickets are available from the Royal Wanganui Opera House.
