Are you free on opening night?

Repertory Theatre’s latest production, the hilarious stage version of the terrifically popular television show “Are You Being Served?”, is all set for a gala opening this Friday (March 23rd) at 7.30pm. This much-loved comedy, directed by Glenn Cameron, features a cast of twelve actors, including all the familiar characters from the well-known television series. Dee Brough takes the helm at the ladieswear counter of Grace Brothers Department Store, delivering a deliciously haughty performance as the inimitable bewigged Mrs Slocombe and talented young actor Ivan Siemonek delivers a wonderfully outrageous performance as the limp-wristed Mr Humphries. Other cast members include Mel Hawkins (last seen in AmDram’s “Desperadoes”) as cockney Miss Brahms, Phil Hudson as pompous Mr Rumbold, Dylan Peterson as ‘ladies man’ Mr Lucas, Graham Dack as the stiff-upper-lipped Captain Peacock and Peter Cameron, who delivers a wonderful bumbling performance as Mr Grainger. Included in the Grace Brothers contingent are Ian Jones as Mr Mash and Martin Brown as Young Mr Grace. Gareth Lewis, Karen Ellett, Peter Dilloway, Becky Dack and Shai Hawkins complete the line-up.

The action of the play takes the audience from the familiar surroundings of Grace Brothers Department Store (complete with malfunctioning lift) to a half-built hotel on the sunny shores of ‘Costa Plonka’ in Spain – thanks to the wonderfully innovative revolving set, designed and built by resident set builder John McGowan. Repertory’s stalwart wardrobe mistress, Kerry Mountstephen, has also had her work cut out for her, having to make or source costumes for twelve actors, some of whom have five or more costume changes.

For an evening of outrageous fun and slick-paced farce, come along to Repertory’s production of “Are You Being Served?”. The season opens Friday 23rd March at 7.30 and plays 24th, 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th and 31st nightly at 7.30 and Sunday 25th at 2pm. Bookings at Royal Wanganui Opera House or online through out tickets page.
