Absurd Person Singular Opens!

Repertory’s latest production, Absurd Person Singular opened to a very appreciative audience on Friday evening and a great time was had by all, cast and audience alike. As with any production, the first performance in front of an audience is always a bit of a nerve-wracking affair, but the cast and crew more than rose to the challenge and presented a slick and polished show. One of the biggest logistical problems with this particular play are the two major set changes that occur in each interval, but our crew did brilliantly, undertaking two difficult changes with efficiency and aplomb. During the second interval of Saturday evening’s performance they actually got a well-deserved round of applause for the set transformation. So, a huge thanks to Sherman Page (stage manager) and his crew of John McGowan, Martin Brown, Ian Jones and Jill Johnston — all your hard work is much appreciated.

Many thanks must also go to the technical team of Murray Ware (lighting) and Troy Taylor (sound), both of whom have ‘gone the extra mile’ during the run-up to opening night and in performance. Murray always tackles the job of lighting on any show with diligence and good humour, and Troy worked especially hard compiling the sound effects at relatively short notice and running every sound cue with great accuracy.

Finally, thanks must also go to Kerry Mountstephen who has certainly had her work cut out on this show as production manager. It’s always a very big job, overseeing and co-ordinating every aspect of the production, but Kerry has more than coped with her usual efficiency. Kerry has also costumed the show and run front-of-house, along with Frances Brown and the team — who also deserve a big thank you.

On a different note, with barely a pause for breath, we are thrilled to announce that our upcoming auditions for Winter Wonderland, directed by Kerry Girdwood, will be taking place this Sunday from 1 – 4pm. This contemporary Australian comedy is peopled with a wonderful cast of colourful characters and will be great fun to be a part of—so if you’ve ever fancied ‘treading the boards’ at Rep, do come along — we’re looking for male and female actors of all ages for this terrific comedy.

Tickets for Absurd Person Singular are still on sale at the Royal Wanganui Opera House and are priced at $23 (with concessions
available). They’re selling fast, however, so get in quick. Book in person, online, or by phoning 349 0511.
