Summer Wonderland

Summer Wonderland !

Repertory Theatre’s next production is Directed by Kerry Girdwood and the Australian comedy has a terrific cast in place, some of the actors have been in recent productions at Rep and always give a strong performance, and also there are one or two returning to the stage after a long break who will bring their experience to Rep’s stage again. Rehearsals have been going well, with the usual countdown to opening night..

Summer Wonderland by Matthew Ryan, is a true blue parody of life’s trials and tribulations faced by an eccentric group of neighbours in suburban Australia. This intensely funny play is set in a quiet cul-de-sac which provides the setting for all happenings of the characters for the duration of the play. Adding to the hilarity of the acting are the scaled down houses, providing an element of the ridiculous, that create the landscape of the street.

An excellent reflection of the ‘typical’ suburban street, it is a very funny play with a serious undercurrent of comment on the meaning of community. The author provides the audience with the opportunity for amusing reflection of a series of serious issues which contribute to community breakdown, e.g., marital separation, economic status, tolerance of the aged, parent/child expectations, tolerance of difference and criminality. There is a lot more to this play than first meets the eye, and the sense of humour is brilliant.

The show runs from Nov 16th to 24th, bookings at the Opera House, or at the door when available.
