Opening Night

Habeas Corpus opened with a real bang on Friday night with a great turnout and fabulous audience response. Many thanks to all who helped out both front of house and backstage to ensure this production got off to such a great start. I have been very fortunate to have such a terrific cast and accomplished musical director Ron Chapman who’ve all put in an amazing amount of work to get this show up and running. The logistics of a large cast like this can sometimes cause problems, leaving some cast members ‘kicking their heels’ while others are rehearsing on stage, but with this dedicated group no time was wasted with quiet line-runs and surreptitious song and dance rehearsals happening in all corners of the building during the lead up to opening night.

Many thanks must go to Kerry Mountstephen for all her hard work with costuming and also to Mary Dack who has done a great job helping with all the quick changes during each performance. Sherman Page has been a real trooper, utilising his Stage Management skills once more, and Murray Ware has again risen to the challenge of lighting the show with great aplomb. Thanks too to Trish Summers for coming on board at the eleventh hour to operate the sound and follow spot.

Habeas Corpus is a terrifically funny show – as proven by the audience reaction each night – and this is down to the brilliantly witty script by Alan Bennett and the superb performances by the cast.

Habeas Corpus continues this week playing nightly at 7.30pm until Saturday. Tickets can be purchased in advance from the Royal Wanganui Opera House. Catch up regularly on Repertory news by visiting our brand new website – www.wanganuirepertorytheatre.co.nz
