Sunday, 25th of September saw 20 hopefuls turn up at Repertory Theatre to audition for a pantomime based loosely on the story of Red Riding Hood. A madcap, high energy pantomime peppered with slap stick routines, dances, singing, and political innuendos it is not surprising that the audition itself had its own special flavour of merriment and excitement.
Starting with the usual circle warm up the actors were put through their paces with characterisations of heroes, evil bounders and old women, slap stick routines, and a prepared a cappella song.
The audition panel laughed and applauded as these talented people met their various challenges, with the highlight being the various versions of slapstick choreography.
Director – Colin Hedivan, Musical Director – Ted Charlton, Accompanist – Ben Power and Choreographer – Bridget Rison. The cast is: Grandma – Chris McKenzie, Mother Hood – Bridget Hurley, Red Riding Hood – Millie Manning, Sir Roger Bounder – Paul Collins, Lance – Björn Walczak, Morris – Brylee Noble, Boris – Konrad Shaw and Wolf – Lauren Karl.
Red Riding Hood will be performed at Wanganui Repertory Theatre 9 – 18 December 2016.
